Tomato Plants – Cherry, Grape, & Pear
Cherry, Grape and Pear. Mini tomatoes in different shapes, lots of colors and super-wonderful flavors. Our favorites? They are all delicious but … our personal favorites are Black Pearl (Black Cherry) and White Cherry.
At Falls Park Farmers Market, we offered pint boxes of mixed cherries of Sakura (red), Indigo Cherry (Indigo) , Sun Gold (yellow), Black Pearl (black), White Cherry, and Sunpeach (pink). Over twenty-five years of growing cherry tomatoes, we settled on these six varieties due to flavor, presentation, and the least amount of cracking.
Atomic Grape: Lavender and purple stripes, turning to technicolor olive-green, red, and brown/blue stripes when fully ripe. Phenomenal flavor. Won best of show at the 2017 National Heirloom Expo. Range in size from a large grape to plum-sized. Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.
Black Pearl/Cherry: My personal absolute favorite! Rich and sweet. When chilled, has a unique, extra-sweet ‘Concord’ grape flavor.
Cherry Bomb: Classic cherry flavor. Firm, sweet, and well-balanced. High yields; vigorous plant. Red. A bomb of a cherry!
Indigo Cherry Drops: Striking, dark blue anthocyanin coloration and red flesh. Vigorous growth and yield. A beautiful cherry. Another favorite of mine.
Mighty Sweet Red Grape: NEW. Super-sweet 1 inch cherries are ridiculously delicious and loaded with nutrition. High in flavonoids, vitamin C, beta-carotene, lycopenes, and other phytonutrients. Determinate. Container friendly.
Sakura: Red. Early and delicious. Real sweet tomato flavor and firmness without being hard. Produces all season. A bit more compact but still indeterminate.
Sun Gold: New. Golden-orange fruits. Tany-sweet globes are borne in large clusters. Indeterminate.
Sunpeach: A delicious pink cherry tomato. Sister to Sun Gold but sweeter with excellent flavor;not as tangy and acidic. Deep pink shiny cherries are borne on long trusses. Resistant to cracking. Indeterminate.
White Cherry: Appealing pale yellow cherry with a mild tomato flavor. My second in favorites. Black Cherry is always first. Indeterminate.
Yellow Grape: Deep yellow with mild, sweet flavor. Pairs beautifully with Mighty Sweet Red Grape.
Yellow Pear: Sweet, tangy yellow pear-shaped fruit. To my tongue, Yellow Pear is very, very mellow.
