Curated Summer Cut-Flower Plant Collection
$95.00
Calling all aspiring flower gardeners!
Love flowers? Want to grow some of the varieties you see in our summer bouquets? Here’s your opportunity.
We put together a carefully curated cut-flower package for our local garden-loving customers.
Details:
A specially curated package of 32 plant plugs, made up of 6-7 varieties of annual cut flowers that will typically bloom summer to early fall. Full sun (or at least almost full sun!) is required to grow to flowering maturity.
We have put together a list of possible flowers included in the collection; final choices will be based on how the plugs grow for us. (Occasionally a variety fails and we need to sub.) Regardless, you will get a great collection of healthy plugs that will thrill you when they bloom.
A new option this year: Add 3 dahlia tubers to our plug selection to enhance your enjoyment and cutting experience.
What plants do I get?!
Some examples:
Feathery Plume or Cockscomb Celosias
Specialty Rose/Orange/Peach/Blush Zinnias
Branching Gomphrena (also dries well)
Peachy/Pinky/Rose/White Strawflowers
Bicolor/Cranberry/Picotee/Double White Cosmos
Dill/Ammi/or other filler style flower
Statice
Fluffy Scabiosa
Ageratum
OPTIONAL: Add 3 mixed dahlia tubers.
Dahlias make a great combo with these cut flowers in vases—they most likely will not start blooming until around August, blooming until frost—whereas your cut flowers should start in July. Our choice of varieties. These dahlias are grown and propagated by us and grown each year for our cut-flower bouquets.
Why is this special?
Our ‘Easy to Grow’ selection is from our very own cut-flower plugs; you will get the same exact flowers we will be growing in our fields this summer. You cannot find these flowers at the local nursery-they are varieties specifically grown for cut flowers. For example, our zinnias are specialty long-stemmed peaches and pinks; not the common short orange variety grown everywhere.
These flowers are designed to grow alongside one another and to bloom at similar times in our climate and to give you a bloom period of 6-10 weeks.
We have sourced and started these seeds and will treat them as our babies until they get into your hands.
Do I get instructions?
Yes! Along with your cut flower kit will come a full page of planting and growth instructions.
These collections will be ready for pickup around mid-to late May, and should be transplanted within a week or so to be sure you get flowers as soon as possible. Please prep your bed when we send you the email about pick-ups coming soon.
What size of space do I need and how many flowers will I get?
These plants can fit neatly into a small space. You can put all 32 of them within a 6 x8′ space or similar.
What if I want more flowers than this?
The goal is to price and put together a ‘starter’ package for someone who just wants to dabble in growing some plants for cutting this year, nothing overwhelming- just fun to try. If you want MORE flowers than listed above, simply order more than one package. Double or triple the fun!
Don’t forget to add dahlia tubers to make your bouquets really special.
Thanks so much for your support and love of our little farm! It’s because of you that I constantly strive to think up new ideas on how to bring flowers to our customers– I know how much people love our flowers, and want to encourage you to grow your own for fun as well! Alissa
